TimberTech engineered decking is made from recycled wood and polymers that
won't split, splinter, decay or warp like wood.
- It comes in a tan color which will lighten to a driftwood gray or a light
brown in hot dry climates and may be painted or stained if desired.
- TimberTech has several types of product dimensions such as 2x6 planking, a
1/2 inch thick timber topper for use on top of existing decking and the most
popular of it's product line is the 12 inch wide tongue and groove decking.
Other components such as railing and fascia boards are now becoming more widely
available.
Performance characteristics
- Designed for use on residential and light commercial exterior decks,
TimberTech decking is also a good choice around pool decks and hot tubs.
- TimberTech has a stamped wood grain pattern making it more slip resistant
than other products.
Safety concerns
-
Relatively
few safety concerns. When
working with TimberTech or any other materials, use protective clothing, dust
mask and eye protection. Wash clothes separately to avoid contact with other
clothing. Do not burn any products that contains chemicals or have applied
finishes such as old deck boards.
Installation
- TimberTech tongue and groove will usually need a TimberTech starter strip to
begin the decking. Boards are then slipped into place by means of the tongue
and groove without the use of glue or caulk.
- Use 2 1/2 inch stainless steel screws. No pre-drilling required except in
extremely cold conditions.
- Leave a 3/16 inch gap between planks laid end to end, house walls and
between fascia boards.
- For grade level decks, 2x6 TimberTech planks are recommended.
